Baked Goods Benefit for TFC

We were up early (3:30 a.m.) so we could leave the house by 4:30 and be at the International Office by 5:00 to take International Chapel #2 to Menges Diner by 6:00 a.m.

 

Bill Menges wanted us to be there before the breakfast crowd arrived. He had blocked off an area for our rig, to make sure that cars didn't block our entrance.

 

 

 

 

By sunrise the chapel was set up and we were enjoying breakfast in the diner.

 

 

By the time we finished breakfast, the York Chapter ladies were organizing and pricing the incoming items in the pavilion which is attached to the diner.

 

 

They were overwhelmed by the number of people who brought baked goods.

 

 

Items that could be stacked on top of each other were because there were so many things.

 

 

People were buying the goods even before everything was organized. Marie Miller (green coat) was the cashier for most of the day.

Since it was the second Saturday of the month (the day for the York Chapter Prayer Breakfast), those who could, came into the chapel for a time of prayer and sharing.

What fun when Pastor Dave recognized Cerwin as "Double Bottom." Cerwin acquired that CB handle when he drove a propane truck with two tanks - a tank truck that pulled a pup.

They hadn't seen each other in thirty years. Dave remembered that Cerwin ministered encouragement to him when their driving schedules brought them together in a local restaurant.

 

 

Baked goods continued to sell all day long.

 

 

 

 

Shortly after lunch a photographer from Gettysburg Times came to see what was going on. He had been invited by Willis Hartman (back to camera).

 

 

We had promised to keep the chapel there until 2:00 p.m. and before leaving, checked to see what we could purchase. After Cerwin bought a rhubarb pie, the ladies insisted that we take a few other things at no charge.  How nice of them.

Some of the York Chapter members stayed until the supper crowd was over. If I understood correctly, they were going to give unsold items to a local facility that cares for handicapped people.

The Brick House

For Diana's Birthday

 

We finally got together on a restaurant date with Diana for her August birthday. She chose The Brick House in Manheim.

When we got there I was surprised to discover that my camera wasn't in the car, then remembered that I put it in the RAV4 and Cerwin decided to take the van. 

 

 

My cell phone doesn't take great pictures, but at least we have a few memories from the evening.

Diana chose an appetizer of Mozzarella Cheese Sticks that were in the shape of a patty.

The Brick House is known for its delicious cupcakes. Diana chose chocolate with peanut butter icing.

 

 

Cerwin chose carrot cake with cream cheese icing. I just tasted a small piece of each.

 

 

Later I took another picture of Diana with my good camera.

We always prepare questions for the grandchildren on their birthday suppers and they prepare some for us. She had some great thought-provoking questions for us - like what is your best memory of your dad?

Mine was racing to the barn with him one time for the evening milking. I was ahead of him as I opened the gate - but he jumped over the fence and beat me to the barn. I have many, many others, but that is one of my favorite childhood memories.

Cerwin: When he pleased his dad by doing a good job on a chore around the farm. He also has a lot of wonderful adult memories of time spent with his dad.

Brooklyn Diner, Rain, and Home

Tall buildings fascinate me as I am used to tall trees.

 

 

 

 

We arrived at Brooklyn Diner at 10:30 - just in time for brunch.

 

 

 

 

There was a waiting line, so I took time to walk around the area.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Before long it was our turn to go inside.

 

Deb and I shared Eggs Benedict, as it always comes with two eggs.

 

 

The men got omelets.

 

 

What could I have done to get this kind of expression from Deb?

 

 

I took a fork full of her red velvet cake!

By the way, it was the best red velvet cake I have ever tasted. The filling was whipped cream, blueberries, and strawberries.

 

 

After going back to our hotel to retrieve our luggage (we had to be there by noon) we got a cab to Macy's because we thought it would be a good way to spend our last (rainy) hour in New York City.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Macy's is probably the only place that I don't have to see again.  I get confused by left and right, meaning I got so lost. According to Google, there are ten floors - the basement, then floors 1 to 9. I somehow missed floors 8 and 9.

I do not like shopping, so my favorite thing was riding the old wooden escalators.

 

 

I took one last ride on an escalator before heading back to the check in area where we left our luggage.

I got there by asking for directions many times.

We had so much fun with Roy and Deb and had a relaxing, wonderful time in the city.

Rockefeller Center to Central Park

I noticed this European Starling enjoying a bath in a large fountain as we walked toward Central Park.

 

 

 

 

Cerwin enjoys following the financial world and wanted a photo in front of Charles Schwab. (Maybe he thought some money would rub off on him.)

 

 

 

 

We met some young people along the way who were trying to sell carriage rides through the park.

 

 

We had done a lot of walking in the past twenty-four hours, so decided that a ride would be nice.

 

 

 

 

It was a pleasant, cold morning (the temperature had dropped about 20 degrees from the day before) and the ride was quite informative.

 

 

I'm not used to seeing people sleeping in the open.

 

 

Oh how I wish everyone could have a nice comfy bed.

 

 

Our driver told us about the buildings as we slowly traveled through the park.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pick up and drop off for the carriages was in front of The Helmsley Park Lane, a forty-six story Central Park luxury hotel.

 

 

Cerwin enjoyed talking to our driver.

The horses and drivers wait in line and continue to move forward as one leaves. The front one is available for a ride. I suppose if you want to ride one that is farther back the line, you wait until it is in front.

Fox News & Rockefeller Center

After getting some Starbucks coffee, we walked to Fox News.

 

 

We enjoy Fox News, so it was fun to see the physical location.

 

 

 

 

Cerwin walked down to the area where we sometimes watch outside activities.

 

 

He watched a bit as these ladies prepared for their food segment which was coming up within the hour.

 

 

 

 

From there we walked to Rockefeller Center.

 

 

And they know what I do with my photos!

 

 

The mums were in full bloom.

 

 

 

 

Next to the mums was a huge Lego store.

 

 

We missed our three small grandsons (Ian, Jared, and Jesse) here. They would love to go inside and choose Legos. We were early, and did not wait for the store to open.
