    Mother High's 95th Birthday Party

    Sunday Evening, September 16 - Part 2

    1 Mother's Party (1)

    While we waited for Cerwin to finish grilling supper, Jeff took Grandma for a short ride in their 1946 Chevy.

    By this time everyone had arrived and Cerwin could bring the grilling to an end.

    Dessert was this delicious carrot cake and ice cream.

    1 Mother's Party (9)

    I was trying to get a picture of this crew.

    1 Mother's Party (10)

    After many silly interruptions I finally got a shot of most of them.

    1 Mother's Party (11)

    Mother's cards

    1 Mother's Party (12)

    Mother wanted to taste Abby's raisin/pecan/coconut sticky buns, so Abby brought a pack from her bakery.

    1 Mother's Party (13)

    Jere reading their card to Grandma. She cannot see very well, so we asked everyone to read their card to her and share any memories they wished.

    Jere reminded her of the Christmas (many years ago) that she remembered a gift for every grandchild but him - and he was just a little guy. She and Grandpa felt so bad, and promised him a special gift from their upcoming trip to Florida. She was surprised that he still remembered what she and Grandpa gave him.

    1 Mother's Party (14)

    Gabi reading their card.

    1 Mother's Party (15)

    Listening to the reading of the cards.

    1 Mother's Party (16)

    Dorretta brought back a lot of memories for the oldest grandchildren when she read a list of her memories.

    1 Mother's Party (17)

    Jeff (her oldest grandchild) shared some special things and events he remembered.

    1 Mother's Party (18)

    Elvin reading their card.

    1 Mother's Party (19)

    Ted shared his card and mentioned how much he appreciates her love.

    1 Mother's Party (20)

    Debbie showing her a picture of Grandma and Roy during a recent meal at a local restaurant.

    1 Mother's Party (21)

    We appreciated the lights that our sister-in-law Brenda left at the pavilion following a Friday night wedding reception. They added to our celebration.

    Happy 95th Birthday Mother - and many more!

    For Mother High's 95th Birthday

    Sunday Evening, September 16 - Part 1

    1ab (1)

    We had the pavilion tables decorated and ready by 4 p.m.

    1ab (2)

    I was pleased to find "Ella" balloons.

    1ab (3)

    Guests began arriving shortly after 4 p.m.

    1ab (4)

    Since we had a large party for her when she turned ninety, we decided to keep this one to family.

    1ab (5)

    1ab (6)

    We and Cerwin's siblings provided the food. Cerwin's sister ordered this beautiful carrot cake.

    1ab (7)

    Cerwin is Mother's oldest son. I decided to take a picture of each family with mother while Cerwin was grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, and sausage, consequently we almost forgot to have our photo taken with her - and did it just before the party was over.

    1ab (8)

    Our oldest son Jeff, his wife Chris, and their children. Left to right: Kezi & Jordan, Gloria, Diana, Jenna, Nate & Sabrina behind Mother, Jeff & Chris.

    1ab (14)

    Cerwin's oldest sister Velda and her husband, Mel.

    1ab (15)

    Their daughter Dorretta, her husband Rod, and their family: Rod, Megan & Eric, Justin & Haley, and Dorretta.

    We missed Mel and Velda's youngest daughter Denise, her husband Dave, and their three children who live in Florida.

    ~~~
    1ab (16)
    Mel and Velda's son, Donald, was on a mission trip to Alaska. This photo is his wife, Gabi, and their sons Jeremy and Shtefan.
    1ab (17)
    Cerwin's brother, Elvin, and his wife, Patti.
    1ab (18)
    Their son Ted and his son Trenton.
    1ab (19)
    Bryan (Elvin & Pat's youngest son) and his wife, Leslie.
    1ab (20)
    Elvin and Pat's daughter, Crystal, her husband, Jakey, and their girls Bailey and Peyton.
    1ab (21)
    Hob and Arlene Stauffer represented our Minnesota/Wisconsin/Indiana family. Hob and Arlene are the parents of our brother-in-law Robert Stauffer who is married to Cerwin's youngest sister Doris. We missed having them here, but I was able to "steal" a brand  new family photo that their son Japheth posted on Facebook yesterday.
    1ab (22)
    My step-mother, Velma, and Mother High have been friends for a long time, and enjoyed traveling together when our fathers were living.
    Truck Show at Jason Shelly's Shop
    Saturday, September 15 - Part 2
    2a (1)
    Partway through the afternoon I noticed a new vehicle - an old bus that had been used by the music group, The Basics.
    2a (2)
    As I walked toward the bus, I saw this little guy on the back of a rig playing peek-a-boo with someone.
    2a (3)
    The inside of the bus.
    2a (4)
    Renita Shelly gave the children ATV rides.
    2a (5)
    Get your hot dogs here!
    2a (6)
    Common Cents began their concert at 4 p.m.
    2a (7)
    They were a great addition to this truck show.
    2a (8)
    2a (9)
    2a (11)
    2a (10)
    2a (12)
    2a (13)
    This little guy grabbed his milk bottle and danced to the music.
    2a (14)
    She and the little guy in the previous picture reminded me of the poem by William W. Purkey
    You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
    Love like you'll never be hurt,
    Sing like there's nobody listening,
    And live like it's heaven on earth.
    2a (15)
    I thought these dirty feet were a perfect way to close the truck show pictures!
    2a (17)
    I can still feel the warm sunshine of this beautiful evening.
    2a (18)
    Before long we were driving into the setting sun.
    2a (19)
    2a (20)
    2a (21)
    2a (22)
    As we approached our house - about 9:00 p.m. - we noticed nearby fireworks and remembered that our local village was celebrating our fire company's one hundredth birthday.
    2a (16)
    It was a wonderful day.
    Truck Show at Jason Shelly's Shop
    Saturday, September 15
    1a (1)
    Before going to the truck show we enjoyed lunch at Sam & Alice Rittenhouse's house. Sam is the keeper of the orchard that you enjoyed the past few evenings. On either side of Alice and Sam are two of their grandchildren from Oklahoma - Kaylee and Mark.
    It was nice to find something girly at a truck show.
    1a (9)
    1a (10)
    As you can tell Jason's shop is next to a church cemetery.
    There was also a beautiful, customized pickup.
