I noticed this European Starling enjoying a bath in a large fountain as we walked toward Central Park.

Cerwin enjoys following the financial world and wanted a photo in front of Charles Schwab. (Maybe he thought some money would rub off on him.)

We met some young people along the way who were trying to sell carriage rides through the park.

We had done a lot of walking in the past twenty-four hours, so decided that a ride would be nice.

It was a pleasant, cold morning (the temperature had dropped about 20 degrees from the day before) and the ride was quite informative.

I’m not used to seeing people sleeping in the open.

Oh how I wish everyone could have a nice comfy bed.

Our driver told us about the buildings as we slowly traveled through the park.

Pick up and drop off for the carriages was in front of The Helmsley Park Lane, a forty-six story Central Park luxury hotel.

Cerwin enjoyed talking to our driver.

This is the view behind where we were standing.

The horses and drivers wait in line and continue to move forward as one leaves. The front one is available for a ride. I suppose if you want to ride one that is farther back the line, you wait until it is in front.

  • a carriage ride in Central Park! ~ how cool is that!!!

  • @fwren - It was delightful.

  • Oh, I would love a carriage ride. I lived in NY and never got to do that. I used to be homeless and saw people sleeping in the park all the time. I used to have an apartment in the same place as the women’s homeless shelter so I saw a lot of people without a warm comfy bed to lay their weary bodies. It makes me extremely blessed and very grateful for what I have now. Onxce again, fantastic pictures and I’m glad ya’ll had a great time!

  • How fun you went on a carriage ride! We found central park such a nice feel when we had been in the city all day. We walked through just before twilight and finished as the as the lights all came on.

  • Wonderful shots of your day in NYC, Doris!  I love the idea of a carriage ride, and it looks as if Deb really needed not to walk farther (she looks exhausted in that carriage shot!).  What fun!

  • @ABAHM - I can imagine that the park would be pretty at twilight and after dark.

  • @slmret - I think I just caught Deb with an “off” expression. :)

  • Another thing to add to my”to do someday list”,(the carriage ride in Central Park).

  • @loaine - Yes, do add it to your “to do someday list”. Because we did a lot of walking, it was a relaxing way to see the park. We said going to New York with another couple was a great way to save some money. A hotel room can hold four, a cab can hold four, and a Central Park carriage holds four. The charge is the same whether there is one or four people. :)
