Red-bellied Woodpecker
I was delighted to see a male Red-bellied Woodpecker today. I see them now and then, but they are not a regular at our feeders.
I know it’s a male because his head and nape are red. The female has a break of grey on its head.
They are fairly large for birds at our feeders – about nine inches when fullgrown.

Ooh — beautiful bird!
@slmret - It was so much fun to see him.
Great pictures! They are hard to catch, aren’t they? They seem like shy birds.
@DanishDoll - Yes, they can be difficult to capture in a photo.

@fwren - I agree.
