    My Week

    1

I love to begin each day by spending some time with the Lord - searching for a verse for this blog - praying for our family and friends - and requesting His insight and strength as I prepare for another day.

After my first cup of coffee, I like to see which of my bird friends and yard critters have come to visit.

This week I noticed that the goldfinches are beginning to show signs of yellow feathers underneath the gray ones.

It won't be too many weeks before the males are a brilliant yellow.

Oh, these guys frustrate me when they get in the small feeders. There is plenty of food in the ground feeders.

Yes, you! I don't like when you crawl in this basket.

On Thursday I went to TFC's International Office to train Jane (right) on how to do the layout and design of staff newsletters. Inge (left) came to Jane's office to show her how to resize megapixels, crop, and lighten/darken photos. I thought it best for Jane to use the program that Inge is familiar with - for future assistance if necessary.

This is the beginning of a new era for me as I move toward partial retirement from TFC - by the end of 2013. I have discussed this with the ministry leadership, and each of us is pleased with doing the transition this way.

I have been busy all my adult life - either raising children, teaching ladies Bible studies, or serving the Lord through TFC, and I have a few things on my bucket list that I want of do - especially with photo preservation and heritage records for our children and grandchildren.

Jane was easy to teach, and we were on the same page about many things involving newsletters. I will give her a few newsletters each month so that by the end of 2013 she has the templet for each one. I have about forty.

I will still get the finished letters - after they are approved, copyedited, and proofread - and continue to print and prepare them for bulk mailing as long as I am able - hopefully another ten years.  Plus there are the local prayer breakfasts, banquets, promotional events with mobile chapels, delivery of chapels, and the Truck Rally, so I will still have plenty to do to keep me from getting bored.

On Saturday Cerwin prepared our patio garden and bird feeding area for winter.

While he did that, I prepared a large pot of chili, which will be part of our Sunday lunch. I wanted something easy - that I can heat in a crockpot during church. The rest of our family will be bringing food as we celebrate the baptism of our grandchildren Gloria and Ian after morning worship tomorrow.

A red-bellied woodpecker came to visit last evening.

I always wonder why they are called red-bellied woodpeckers when their belly is whitish beige and only their head is red.

It was a good week. The surgeon released me - after my two-week visit on Tuesday. He said there was no tumor on the infected parathyroid and no cancer. We did not expect there to be any malignancy, but it was still good to hear that.

  • So glad you're doing well -- and it's good to hear that you are working towards retirement as well!

  • That chili looks good. The day of grandchildrens' baptism is a great day to celebrate. I've also wondered why they're called red-bellied woodpeckers. I'm so glad for your good news from the Dr.

  • I enjoy your pictures. I am a bird lover as well. I used to wonder that about the red-bellied's but discovered sometime that they have a reddish wash between their legs on their bellies. It's not an area that is seen often but the way they perch at our feeders it can be seen at times.

  • @Frieda%20Yoder - Yes, I think I have seen that at times as well. Thanks for your comment. I love comments.
