Or either he has friends who look just like him.

The other day I was watching this European starling at another suet feeder.

He noticed me and flew up into the dogwood tree.

Then it came back, keeping a watchful eye on me.

Then I captured this strange picture.

It must have been shaking its head when I snapped the photo. I did not touch it up with photoshop - other than crop it so you can see it close up.

A cold, cloudy evening created a pretty sunset.

    It was an interesting day.

  • I imagine the woodpecker has a number of friends who like you and your suet feeder!  And that's an amazing capture of the starling!  I was thinking that I like his feathers better upside down than the normal way, but the shot in the tree must just have a different angle without the white spots.  And that's a wonderful sunset!  I went out to try to catch the sunset on our snowy mountains, but missed it by a few minutes -- will try again later in the week.

  • Lovely bird and sunset pictures.

  • @fwren - Yes, I agree that there is probably more than one male woodpecker in our area. It is amazing how quickly sunsets change. I almost missed his one - and it was prettier a few minutes earlier - when we were coming home from Christmas shopping but I didn't have my camera.

  • @fwren - @ata_grandma - I have fun capturing birds and sunsets.

  • our sunset the other day was a pretty blue and pink

    how sweet-a woody the woodpecker.
