Elwood’s Burial
Wednesday, February 20
Ian, Jesse, and Jared were pleased to be pallbearers for their friend Elwood.
Traveling to the gravesite.
The icy mud was “tempting” for Jared and Ian.
It was brutally cold and windy.
Jere shared a short prayer near the gravesite.
Kristen bought balloons as a special memory for Gregg and the children.
Preparing to release them.
The Shiffer Headstone
There are many things in a graveyard that remind us that this is our final earthly goodbye.

Tomorrow night: Stopping at a local restaurant before going home.

The balloons make a somber moment seem bright and hopeful.
There are so many touching things in this post and the earlier one about this gentleman’s passing, but seeing those boys helping with the casket really said so much — about how they are being raised the right way. Thanks for sharing — I loved the balloons, colorful and bright against the grey sky.
How great that the little boys helped in this ceremony — and what lovely symbolism in the balloons!
@Richgem - It was a special moment to be able to do that.
@AmericanJanet - Thanks. It was very meaningful for the children to be part of the goodbye to Elwood.
@slmret - Yes, I agree.
special times ~ special memories ~
@fwren - We were so pleased to participate.
I love that your family had this simple ceremony and burial for a friend and included his son — I love that the young boys were allowed to be part of this special tribute to their friend.
@myhopeisinjesus - Thanks. Jere and Kristen were the ones who planned it, and did a great job of honoring Elwood.
