    Last week – on the day it snowed – our yard and bird feeders were invaded by hundreds of black birds.

    I thought they may be grackles because of their eyes, but they could have been migrating black birds that are not common to our area.

    They were in every tree…

    …and emptied our bird feeders.

    It was kind of fun to watch them, but they sure emptied the feeders quickly.

    Our yard was a noisy, fluttering place.

    …and they weren’t the only thing emptying our feeders.

    She was oblivious to the black birds.

    Then it was time to fill the feeders again.

  • When the blackbirds first come they are very hungry!

  • I never saw Hitchcock’s movie ‘The Birds’ — but it looks as if you might have on Monday!

  • I saw “The Birds” – when I was a kid. . . and this looks amazing like it! Wow! That was my first thought!

  • WOW! We often get flocks of rooks here, which remind me of black birds. I hope those black birds don’t hang around for long!

  • Eeeek!  I do NOT care for grackles ~ was just telling hubby yesterday that it is time to get some safflower seed for the summer ~

  • @ata_grandma - @slmret - @piecedtreasures - @DanishDoll - @fwren - I am not surprised that most of you thought of Hitchock. :) I thought of scaring them off, but decided to take pictures instead.

  • These black birds are the reason why I can’t put out bird feeders anymore. It’s so frustrating!! I miss my cardinals, juncos, and finches!!! Very sad!!

  • Are you sure you weren’t in MY yard with that camera of yours?   (o;   My yard and creek area, with all the trees have looked like that for a couple of weeks now.   They have  not bothered my suet cakes though.   The only birds to bother those, other than the ones I WANT there, are the starlings.  When a starling lights, they get the balls with the big eyes and tentacles with flashing lights thrown toward them.  (o;

  • @GrannyHummingbird - …and my brother said he thinks the same flock came and emptied his feeders – five miles away. It sounds like you are having fun with the balls with big eyes. :)
