Visiting Roy and Deb and Their Critters
Sunday Evening, December 9
Since we would be going right by Roy and Deb's road on the way home from Wendell and Betty's house, we called to see if they were home. They have a new "baby" that we had not yet seen.
This is Presley - a raccoon that was near death when they got her. No one - epecially the vet - expected her to live. She weighed one-and-a-half pounds at that time. Now look at her. She weighs almost ten pounds.
She will be released in spring when she's old enough to be outside and on her own.
Keebler the skunk is in partial hibernation (sleeping approximately 18 hours a day).
He has been neutered and descented and is a household pet.
These two love to play and scrap - like brothers and sisters.
Look at the size of him! I keep telling him that he needs to go on an exercise program.
He takes offense at that.
This is Jimmy DooLittle - their new baby flying squirrel. Someone else rescued him and several of his siblings and could not keep them all. He is six weeks old and weighs 1.1 ounce.
I like how he holds unto the tip of the feeding syringe when Deb feeds him.
He is surely a cute little guy.
As you can see by the rear view mirror, it was still raining when we headed home.
We live about an hour away from their place.
It was a delightful Sunday.

The little squirrel is so cute. Did I ever tell you about out neighbors in Calif? They had a pet skunk that had been descented. They named him Eau de Cologne, pronounced Odie Colonee, like the cartoon character. They called him Odie for short.
@ata_grandma - I don't remember you telling me about Odie.
Quite the household ~
Funny how they play and spat with each other ~
So, so precious! I just love their hearts for precious animals and how they give them a chance to live!! The flying squirrel is so cute. Is it going to be okay for the raccoon to be in the wild after he is trusting humans? Blessings for a wonderful weekend.
@buana - The raccoon will not be okay in the house when it becomes mature - She will becoume quite restless. They will take her to a private property - a large wooded area. They take food there about once a week, and often see their raccoons on the field camera. They have released quite a few so far. They adapt to the woods within about fifteen minutes, and will no longer respond to Roy and Deb - except to hiss at them. Deb said it is amazing to watch their transformation when placed in the wild.
@fwren - Yes, they do have quite a household.
Doris, thank you so much for the very interesting information about racoons! It's so funny how they will not respond to Deb and Roy and only hiss...lol. Also, thank you for easing my mind. Again, they are such a blessing to those who can't help themselves. Blessings.
